JimmyL Studio SpreadSplit

Privacy policy

SpreadSplit · macOS and iOS · Version 1.1 · Effective 1 March 2026

SpreadSplit collects no personal data. Every operation — opening files, splitting pages, exporting — happens entirely on your device. Nothing is transmitted, stored remotely, or shared with anyone, on either platform.

About SpreadSplit

SpreadSplit splits double-page PDF spreads into individual portrait pages. It exists as two separate native apps — one for macOS, one for iPhone and iPad — published independently on the App Store. This policy applies to both.

What data is collected

None. Neither version contains an analytics SDK, crash reporting service, telemetry system, advertising framework, or backend server. There is nothing to collect and nowhere to send it.

  • No personal information — name, email or Apple ID
  • No usage analytics or behavioural data
  • No crash reports or diagnostic logs sent to the developer
  • No location data
  • No device identifiers or fingerprints
  • No contents, names, paths or metadata of your PDF files
  • No purchase or payment information

How the app accesses your files

Both versions access only the files you explicitly choose to open. The mechanism differs by platform.

macOS

SpreadSplit runs inside Apple's App Sandbox. It can only reach files you open through the standard Open dialog or drag onto the window — it cannot browse your file system freely. Output is saved where you choose through the Save dialog. The entitlements in use are com.apple.security.app-sandbox and com.apple.security.files.user-selected.read-write.

iPhone and iPad

SpreadSplit opens PDFs through the system document picker with asCopy: true, which means iOS makes a sandboxed copy before handing the file over — the app never holds a reference to your original. Output is exported through the standard share sheet to wherever you choose. The app requests no entitlements beyond the standard iOS sandbox.

On both platforms your files never leave the device. No file content is transmitted, cached remotely, or accessible to anyone but you.

What is stored locally

SpreadSplit stores the file paths of recently opened PDFs in UserDefaults, so you can reopen them quickly. Only the path strings are stored — never file content. On iOS the stored path points at the sandboxed copy rather than your original. This data is not synced through iCloud and is not transmitted anywhere.

File access is used for one thing only: opening the PDF you choose and exporting the split result. There is no advertising and no cross-app tracking on either platform.

Third-party services

There are none. Both apps are built entirely on Apple's own frameworks — PDFKit, SwiftUI, CoreGraphics, AppKit or UIKit depending on platform, and UniformTypeIdentifiers for the document picker on iOS. No third-party SDK collects data on the developer's behalf.

Apple's role

Both apps are distributed through the App Store, and Apple independently collects certain data about purchases and usage under its own privacy policy. That data goes to Apple, not to the developer, who has no access to it.

If the app crashes, your operating system may offer to send a diagnostic report to Apple — again, not to the developer. You control that under Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements in system settings.

Children

SpreadSplit is rated 4+ on both stores. Because the app collects no data from anyone, it is suitable for users of all ages.

Your rights

Because no personal data is collected on any platform, there is nothing to access, correct, export or delete. You have complete privacy by default and no action is required.

Changes to this policy

This policy covers all current versions of SpreadSplit on all platforms. If the privacy practices of either app ever change — for example by adding a feature that needs network access — this page will be updated before that version is released, and the change noted in the App Store release notes for the affected platform.
